For the Love of Books

What is Bookstagram?

After three years of this little column, I thought it might be time to introduce myself and @sarahsbookchat 😊

Do you ever finish a book and just want to chat about it to someone who either has read it, who might be considering it, or who just loves books as much as you do?

Well, Bookstagram is a specific corner of Instagram where people share the books they’re reading, new releases and older books, and join many discussions and online book clubs. I have been on there over 8 years now and find it the loveliest corner of the internet.

Bookstagram also comes with some perks, as once you have enough followers you might be sent early reader copies of books to promote, or invitations to events. Publishers will often send out a catalogue of what is coming soon and people can request books from the lists.

Some Bookstagrammers have even made it their career by monetising certain aspects. Some of the biggest worldwide include @jordys.book.club and @fictionmatters.

In Australia there is a new boy on the scene @lukebateman_ , along with @shaewinter_ and two of my long-term favourites Kristy from @sometimes_I_read_books and Katie from @katie.reads.things

Bookstagram also merges with BookTok, but that’s for the kids far cooler than me, so I’ll stick to my little corner for now.

If you’re interested, simply search for #bookstagram when you are on Instagram, and get ready for your “to be read” list to grow exponentially!

Happy reading!
